The Disha Ravi Case is one of the most followed cases in the country at the moment. The media attention it has received at both national, as well as international level, is tremendous, to say the least. The arrest of a 21-year-old for the alleged sharing of a toolkit that has pro-Khalistan links has seen both the extreme conservatives and extreme-liberals voice out their opinions in support and against the incident.
Facts
The farmer’s protests received international fame when popstar Rihanna tweeted on it. Following her Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg also expressed her solidarity with the farmers via tweets. One of Thunberg’s later deleted tweet has been the main contention in a sensational case.

The main accused is Disha Ravi a Bangalore based climate activist who had been produced before a Delhi Court on 14th February when she was remanded 5 days of police custody for investigation. On the expiry of the 5 day period she has been [produced before the Court again.
Delhi Court
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Chief Magistrate Aakash Jain who heard the case remanded Disha Ravi to 3 more days of judicial custody. This is following her 5 days of remand in police custody.
The counsel for Ravi was Senior Advocate Siddharth Agarwal. He argued that
“Case diary is not properly made…and in volume form. There’s no ground to keep her in any custody, police custody or judicial custody. She (Ravi) ought to be released right now.”
The State was represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Irfan Ahmed who contended that Disha needed to be remanded as she was ‘evasive’ during the investigation process.
The Prosecutor also brought to the Court’s attention that Shantanu Muluk a co-accused in the case had been served with a notice to join the investigation process on the 22nd of February. Shantanu Muluk had been granted 3 days bail by the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court.
Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court had heard a plea filed by Disha Ravi with regard to the media hounding her trail and revealing her private information and leaking her private WhatsApp chats to the public and disseminating information, coming up with their theories. The High Court held this is violative of her fundamental rights to privacy and equality and right to life (Articles 14 and 21) while ordering the media outlets from disseminating the information to their convenience. The Delhi Court however did not order the removal of these contents.
