Kangana’s Passport Renewal Application Disposed of and the Passport Authority Will Consider Her Application Expeditiously: Bombay High Court

Facts of the case

The actress approached the court alleging that the passport authority had objected to renewing her passport since FIRs are pending against her. The actress said that her passport would expire on September 15, 2021, and that she needed to fly to Hungary in order to finish shooting the second schedule of her upcoming Hindi movie Dhaakad. 

Arguments before the court

The Counsel appeared on behalf of the petitioner, submitted that no criminal cases were pending against the petitioner in any court arising out of the 2 FIR’s that were in question in this petition. Whereas, the additional solicitor general appearing on behalf of the respondent had submitted that the application filed by the petitioner for the renewal of the passport had not mentioned the facts accurately. It was also submitted that the application had stated that there were criminal cases pending against the petitioner whereas only FIRs were registered against the petitioner. He also submitted that if the petitioner was ready to make a statement that no criminal cases pending against her and make appropriate corrections before the passport authority then the renewal of passport Application shall be considered in accordance with the passport act expeditiously.

Court’s observation 

The court had observed that the application for the renewal of the passport would be decided as soon as possible in accordance with the passport act/rules/procedures.

Court’s Decision 

After taking the arguments of the counsels appearing on behalf of the petitioner and the respondent, the court held that the application filed by the petitioner in order to renew her passport would be decided as soon as possible and as per the relevant provisions of the passport act/rules/procedures expeditiously. The interim application was also disposed of accordingly by the Bombay High Court.
