Mumbai HC Gives 3 Months Bail to Suresh Jain in Gharkul Scheme Scandal

Facts of the Case

Former minister Suresh Jain, who is facing imprisonment for Gharkul Scheme Scandal in Jalgaon, has given comfort to the Mumbai High Court. Jain has been granted a three-month seasonal bail for medical reasons. He has been granted bail on a caste bond of Rs 5 lakh.

Jain had favoured Khandesh Builders, the firm which got the contract to build houses under the ‘Gharkul’ scheme and indulged in irregularities of Rs 29 crore. And 5,000 houses to be built on the outskirts of Jalgaon city of Maharashtra, but only 1,500 were completed. Former Jalgaon municipal commissioner Pravin Gedam had registered a complaint in this regard in 2006.

Decision of the Dhule District Court

The Dhule District Sessions Court had declared all the eight accused, including Shiv Sena leader and Suresh Jain, former minister of NCP, Gulabrao Devkar, guilty of the Jalgaon Gharkul Scam. Suresh Jain was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment. In this case, Gulabrao Devkar has been sentenced to 2 years and a fine. The court convicted Suresh Jain in 29 crores Gharkul Housing Scam. The court found that Jain was guilty of corruption and sentenced him 7 years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 100 crores.

Bombay HC granted Bail to Suresh Jain

Suresh Jain’s nature in prison has deteriorated over the past few days and also began treatment. He is reported to be undergoing treatment at the JJ Hospital. He had applied for bail for treatment. The Bombay High Court granted them provisional bail and released them.
