  • Data mining of all historic matters on which advice has been given since 25 June 2018, carrying out a full assessment against hallmarks of any matters with a cross-border element, recording all relevant information and notification of all reportable arrangements to the relevant tax authority by 31 August 2020.
  • Implementing a robust process for identifying matters with a cross-border element, both at matter opening and if applicable during the matter, assessing the arrangement against the hallmarks, recording all relevant information and where the firm is a service provider notifying to the relevant tax authority within 30 days of the advice have been given.
  • Being the point of contact for DAC6 referrals, understanding what information is required, asking the appropriate questions in order to extract the necessary information from matter teams, performing technical analysis of cross-border arrangements against the hallmarks, escalating the assessment as necessary and notifying reportable arrangements within the specified time limit.
  • Supporting the relevant local office team in preparing and implementing the Firm’s “catch up” disclosure in August 2020.
  • Preparing for the Firm to meet its obligations on the move to “real time” reporting from August 2020 by creating and embedding an appropriate process.
  • Being a point of contact for technical queries on DAC6 such as whether a matter is potentially within scope for disclosure and practical queries about updating information etc.
  • Maintaining process documentation.

In relation to some of these activities the Compliance Legal Support Executive will lead and manage the issue rather than supporting.

Responsbilities

  • Liaising with tax lawyers across EU offices to keep up to date on latest developments including the detail of implementing legislation, guidance notes from tax authorities etc.
  • Liaising with lawyers on matter teams to perform the technical analysis of cross-border matters.
  • Conducting a review of information provided to determine whether a matter is potentially reportable and providing the analysis to the relevant local office team for further review.
  • Assisting/managing the DAC6 reporting process and maintaining records for audit purposes.
  • Assisting in developing country-specific guidelines on what is/is not disclosable and other relevant issues.
  • Where disclosures are not made due to privilege, notifying other DAC6 contacts and/or the client if appropriate and requested by the matter partner.

Skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • A bachelor’s/master’s degrees in accounting, finance or management (or equivalent)
  • 7+ years accountancy/tax experience in an international professional services firm
  • Accountant or lawyer (or similar)

Technical knowledge

  • Experience in meeting obligations under international tax reporting regimes (ideal but not essential)
  • Experience working within a highly regarded accountancy or law firm (ideally working in with tax regulations and/or processes)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the requirements under the DAC6 Directive (ideal but not essential)

Communicating & Influencing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise at all levels within the Firm
  • Ability to influence partners and senior management and to communicate a compliance view clearly, succinctly and persuasively by telephone, in writing and in person
  • Ability to advise on complex issues and processes across all levels of the organisations
