Your Role and Responsibilities:

As an Counsel or Senior Lawyer you will be responsible working closely with major law firm or with a leading in-house corporate legal team in India, or a lawyer based overseas who is looking to return to India. You will have at least 10 years of relevant experience and be open to travel for transactions and other matters from time to time.

Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for advising and assisting at the corporate, division or business unit level, working closely with the IBM leadership team in. You will:

  • Work with management on a range of matters.
  • Review interpret and counsel on relevant local laws, court rulings, policies and practices.
  • Draft and review agreements and other legal related documents.
  • Advise on regulatory matters, strategic issues and assist in maintaining a compliance posture of business. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be responsible for advising on product development and/or marketing strategies and help the business to implement these by preparing and negotiating agreements.
  • Advise management on the legal and ethical aspects arising from the day-to-day business activities of IBM India and South Asia. You will assist with negotiations with customers, external government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Handle claims against the company and assist with the preparation for litigation or arbitration proceedings, deal with queries from regulator including the coordination of efforts by corporate staff and outside counsel.
  • Develop ongoing and future strategies to avoid potentially damaging legal situations regarding product development, marketing strategies, etc. which often will involve working closely with internal management teams and lawyers from other regions to ensure appropriate implementation
  • Negotiate agreements with customers, vendors and other stakeholders.
  • Role will have a lot of interface with external entities and hence requires that the candidate to have legal skills and significant experience of handling and negotiating deals with external entities.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

  • Minimum 10 years’ of relevant experience in a major law firm or leading in-house corporate legal team.
  • International experience either through working with a global firm, global corporation or overseas work experience desirable.
  • Experience in IT (SO or SI) or consulting services (vendor experience preferred) will be considered favourably.
  • Experience in commercial negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Complex multi-party transactional experience desirable.
  • Needs to be a strong team player and capable of working unsupervised.
  • Dynamic, enthusiastic personality.
  • Capable of building strong relationships with the business and being part of an executive team.
  • People management experience desirable

  • Experience working with IT firms.
  • Worked in Law firms.
  • Worked on Sales deals.
