Core Responsibilities:
Citi India Consumer Banking Legal Head is expected to advise on and supervise all legal issues related to Citibank India Consumer Banking business (across different Citi India legal entities, and including portfolios of Credit Cards, Personal Unsecured Loans, Branch Banking, Mortgages, Asset Backed Finance, Investment Advisory and Mutual Fund Distribution. This includes handling transactions, disputes and recovery related legal matters, and set up of new products and business verticals), Citi Realty Services and Citi Security and Investigation Services, Human Resources function and Citi’s captive service provider entity.
Actively participate as a member of Citi India Legal team in various forums for Consumer Bank in India including: Governance Committees, Operations Reviews, Business and Investment Committee, Standing Committee on Complaint Management, Fraud Oversight Committee Business Risk and Control Committee of Global Consumer Bank and NRI Banking business, and in Legal and Compliance Committees.
Manage and lead a five member legal team, and to work with business and functional peers and colleagues within Citi India, and Citi regionally and globally to discharge responsibilities.
To assist on Citi India, Citibank and other affiliate matters on a regular/need basis.
Key Deliverables:
Drive a strong legal compliance and control culture across Citi Consumer Group.
Ensuring a ‘no surprise’ policy through timely escalation
Proactive anticipation/identification of legal issues, evaluate legal risks and provide advice/institute measures to protect the interests of Citibank and CSIL.
Mandatory Skills:
Strong subject matter expertise and knowledge of banking, real estate and employment laws.
Ability to comprehend/analyze/guide on legal issues quickly, assess risk, and provide guidance on a timely basis
Should have a keen eye for detail
Strong stakeholder management skills; needs to have the ability to engage early and put across his/her point of view constructively, to colleagues, peers and seniors
Must be strategy oriented and goal oriented
Strong communication and presentation skills
Ability to lead the team, get the best from the team, and keep them motivated is a must
Ability to collaborate with stakeholders (Compliance, Risk, for example) is key.
Strong ability to multi-task and use the team effectively to deliver results – the India GCB business is on a growth trajectory – the ability to prioritise, cope with multiple commitments in a time bound way, and deliver results is a core requirement
Strong focus on governance and reputational issues; ability to combine these with commercial sense.
Experience (Preferred):
Peer bank, NBFC, Law firm. If from peer bank or NBFC, prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.
B.A. LLB (Hons), with at least 12-14 years PQE
