Bhupinder Singh Mann, one of the members nominated to the Farms Law Committee formed by the Supreme Court for negotiating with the farmers, has quit from the panel saying that he cannot compromise the interest of the Punjab and Farmers of the country and for this, he is ready to sacrifice any position.

With reference to the Farmers’ protests regarding the new Farm Laws, the apex court on Tuesday formed a Four-Committee Panel to take over negotiations with the farmers on the impact of these laws and had stayed the implementation of these three controversial Laws.

The Hon’ble Court has named four agriculturists to the panel namely, Ashok Gulati, who is an agricultural economist; Bhupinder Singh Mann, President, who is national president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) faction known as BKU (Mann); Anil Ghanwat, President, Shetkari Sangathan; and Pramod Kumar Joshi, International Food Policy Research Institute.

Bhupinder Singh Mann said that he wanted to remain impartial and due to public sentiment in connection with the farmers’ ongoing protest. Withdrawing his name, he said,

While I am thankful to Hon’ble Supreme Court of India for nominating me in the 4- member committee to start a dialogue with Kisan Unions on the three laws brought in by the Central Government. As a farmer myself and a Union leader, in view of the prevailing sentiments and apprehensions amongst the farm unions and the public in general, I am ready to sacrifice any position offered or given to me so as to not compromise the interests of Punjab and farmers of the country, I am recusing myself from the Committee and I will always stand with my farmers and Punjab.

It has been widely reported that the Committee members are found in favour of the farm law, although Mr. Mann and Mr. Anil Ghanwat, President of the Shetkari Sanghatana had approached the Centre amendments. In furtherance with this, the Farmers’ Union believes that this committee may be not able to solve the issue. is now on Telegram. Follow us for regular legal updates and judgement from the court.
