The Centre for Civil Society (CCS) is pleased to announce an eColloquium on Liberty, Democracy and the Rule of Law scheduled to take place on 25th October 2020.

The discussion surrounding the Rule of Law has been more or less narrowed down to the legality of Government’s actions and there has rarely been a debate on its substance vis-a-vis the role of Constitutionalism and Democracy in its functioning. In this eColloquium, participants will deliberate and reason with the idea of Rule of Law in connection with justice, liberty and democracy. The reader for the eColloquium on which the discussions will be based upon, will include ( among other scholarly works) readings of great legal and jurisprudential scholars like H.L.A Hart and F.A. Hayek.
What is an eColloquium?
A CCS eColloquium is an online in-depth discussion centred on a chosen theme. Unlike a conventional conference, where one lectures and the audience listens, participants at the eColloquium explore a specific theme together by discussing a common Reader (curated collection of readings), that they read before the program.
Their shared inquiry is guided by a moderator who encourages thinking, asks probing questions, keeps things moving, but does not indulge in one-way monologues, lectures and does not advocate her/his own personal biases and interpretation of the texts. The purpose of the discussions is not to convey doctrine or to drive home certain preconceived conclusions but to challenge participants to examine, refine, and develop their own ideas by engaging with others.
The discussions at the eColloquium follow a certain code of conduct. Participants are encouraged to listen attentively to the thoughts, concerns and questions of others to deepen their understanding of the issue and of each other.
How does it Work?
CCS will select 20 participants from a pool of applicants based on the merit of their application. All students, young professionals, policy enthusiasts as well as CCS’ alumni are encouraged to apply.
A Certificate of participation will be provided to the participants of eColloquium, who successfully attend and contribute to the discussions in all the sessions during the eColloquium.
