About VIPS
Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) is founded on Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy of ‘Man Making, Character Building and Nation Building’. VIPS was established in the year 2000 with a vision to establish, maintain and promote Centers of Excellence for imparting quality professional education in India and abroad.
VIPS is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi. It has been recognised and approved by Bar Council of India and the All India Council of Technical Education and has also been recognised under section 2(f) of the UGC Act. The Institute has been accredited to be “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council for its robust initiatives and impeccable academic standards.
Since the inception of Vivekananda School of Law and Legal Studies (VSLLS) of Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) in the year 2000, it has produced twenty-five University gold medallists, thirty-six Judicial Officers.
About the Workshop
The ability to think, conjure, rationalize and propagate the treasure of knowledge to the succeeding generations has been a divine gift exclusive to the human race. The treasure here refers to the creations of the human brain.
These creations, which take birth from the intellect of a person, are called Intellectual Property. Some examples of Intellectual Properties are inventions, literary works, artistic works, technological innovations, trademarks, trade secrets, plant varieties and so on. Intellectual Property Rights tend to be economic or legal rights but with recent change in trends, it is increasingly argued that Intellectual Property Rights has a broader Human Rights dimension to it as well.
The two main branches of law that have overcome their initial shyness of each other are now more intertwined. The Intellectual Property Rights give rise to monopoly privileges to the creator by protecting the intellectual creation. They usually give the creator an exclusive right over the use of such creations for a certain period of time and it becomes the bone of contention for the human rights proponents as they find these rights as being anti-competitive.
It, thus, becomes imperative for the academicians, researchers, lawyers and even the promising young generation tilting towards a career in research, to understand the nuances of intellectual property for the reason that not only is it an upcoming and important field of Law but also because it affects our lives in one way or the other.
Duration
The technical sessions of the workshop will take place for three days from 17th September 2020 to 19th September 2020 for a period of two hours (16:00 PM to 18:00 PM).
