About IDG
Informal Discussion Group is a student-run society in National Law University Odisha that aims to organize guest lectures by inviting people who have done exemplary work in their respective fields with an intent to motivate and guide law students and provide them a multi-dimensional understanding of a variety of subjects. In pursuance of this, the Informal Discussion group, provide them a platform where they are exposed to different perspectives of the guests.
About the Event
The Group is organizing its 25th Guest Lecture in form of a panel discussion on 3rd October 2020 with panelists Ms. Saba Naqvi and Mr. Harsh Poddar.
Theme: The Role of Media and Police in Deepening Democracy and Enforcing the Rule of Law in India.
Sub-themes
- Role of Police and Media in the electoral Process in India.
- Social Media and its role in changing the nature of protests and the Police’s role in dealing with them.
- Fake news and Migrant Exodus: Combating false news and misinformation.
About the Guest Speakers
Ms. Saba Naqvi is an author, journalist, and commentator and is one of India’s best-known political analysts. An Oxford alumnus, she was a political editor at Outlook under Mr. Vinod Mehta. She is now a leading name in national dailies and is often called to share her opinions on leading news channels.
Mr. Harssh Poddar is an IPS officer. After graduating from WBNUJS in 2008, he read for BCL at Oxford University on a Chevening Scholarship and thereafter worked with Clifford Chance LLP, a London Based Magic Circle Law Firm. Mr. Poddar then cleared the Civil Services Examination in 2013 and came back to serve the nation.
Eligibility for Attendees
Usually, the Guest Lectures by Informal Discussion Group are open exclusively to the students of NLUO only. However, on the occasion of the 25th Guest Lecture Session as well as taking cognizance of the difficulty caused by COVID 19 for students across the country in accessing knowledge, we have decided to make this Guest Lecture OPEN to all the students countrywide.
We shall be accepting the Registrations on the following link, post which, the Zoom Meeting Link shall be shared 1 day prior to the event on the mail ID.
