About the Session

Think India RGNUL cordially invites you for a discussion on Farm Bills 2020: Policy, Reforms and Perspectives to be organized on September 28, 2020 at 7:00 PM.

Recently, the Two Houses of Parliament passed agricultural bills, namely: The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill.

These legislations have attracted a diverse set of reactions from farmers, groups and political parties across the country. While some have hailed it as pro-farmers, others claim it to be disastrous.

Also there has been widespread protests and the fear that Centre’s new laws on agriculture fearing the reforms might sound the death knell for MSPs, subsidies by moving out of direct state support. Others consider it a historic move for the upliftment of Farmers’ distress seeking to break the shackles of monopolies and middle-men. The session would involve deliberations from both the perspectives to reach a meaningful conclusion.
