About SITC

The Society for International Trade and Competition Law (SITC) is an academic society of the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata. The dynamic changes in global economic conditions raise new questions and problems in the fields of Trade and Competition Law, which are a cause of concern for almost every country.

About NUJS Online Lecture Series

The NUJS Online Lecture Series is conducted by the NUJS Student Juridical Association (SJA) in collaboration with various NUJS Societies. In the past, the SITC has collaborated with the SJA to conduct a panel discussion on the Appellate Body crisis at the WTO.

The speakers included Ms. R.V. Anuradha (Partner, Clarus Law Associates), Mr. Deepak Raju (Senior Associate, Sidley Austin LLP) and Dr. James Nedumpara (Head, Centre for Trade and Investment Law, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi).

About the Speaker

Mr. K.P. Anand (Deputy Director of Law, Competition Commission of India)

Mr K.P. Anand is the Deputy Director (Law) at the Competition Commission of India. He has done his Bachelors of Law from School of Excellence, Chennai and obtained his LLM (Constitutional and International Law) from University of Madras, Chennai. He has completed his secondment at Competition Markets Authority, London.

He has also practised in the Madras High Court dealing with cases in corporate and real estate laws. He joined the Competition Commission of India in 2014 as a Case Handling Officer (CHO). As a CHO, he provides inputs to the Commission on various cases and provides an analysis of Investigation Reports to the Director-General of the Commission.

He has previously handled cases relating to cartels in the cement and tyre industries; and abuse and dominance of vertical restraints by car manufacturers. He was also a part of the 4-member delegation that represented India at the BRICS International Competition Conference 2017 held at Brasilia, Brazil.
