Indian School for Democracy is organising a 2-day online lecture on “The Basis of Hinduism”.
About the Event
Indian School for Democracy will revisit the scriptures which form the basis of the religion, and know what they really say in terms of main tenets and values.
The problem lies in people not knowing what the roots of Hinduism are – the Vedas, Upanishads and Gita, Brahmasutras. They go by Ramayana, Mahabharata, the Puranas, Manusmriti and other smritis, temples, rituals, local popular beliefs, etc.
In the series, we will look into what the essentials of Hinduism are and ignore all the superstition and rituals. We will also talk about Universal human values as inferred from Hinduism – tolerance, love, compassion, ahimsa, etc.
The Bhakti saints from Kabir, Nanak, Meera, Tyagaraja and Vemana and Annamaya and other Telugu saints, the Maharashtrian saints like Gyaneshwar, Tukaram, Namdev, Chokamela, Gujarati saints like Narsing Mehta, the Bengali saints and Bauls, the Tamilian Alwars and Nayanars and others, all talk of this.
Details of the Event
The 2-day lectures will be delivered on 17th November (Tuesday) and 23rd November (Monday) for 90 minutes on each day (11:00 AM-12:30 PM).
