The COVID-19 pandemic is deeply affecting the world of work across the globe and has created an unprecedented scenario that raises many questions for labour and employment studies. These concern, inter alia, the impact of the pandemic on workers (and their families) and businesses across and within countries; the role of labour and social protection institutions in addressing its consequences; the policy responses formulated to address the socio-economic and employment crisis it has provoked; and whether and how the dominant models of production and work organization impact the environment and create the conditions for the occurrence of epidemics of which the COVID-19 outbreak is only the latest example.
In the light of the above, the International Labour Review (ILR) is calling for the submission of papers related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the world of work with a view to the publication of a special multidisciplinary issue in English, French and Spanish.
Submissions are encouraged from all fields related to the world of work, such as economics, law, industrial relations, social policy, sociology, psychosocial studies, environmental studies and history.
Manuscripts published in this special issue will be made available via open access.
Submission and selection process
The selection of the papers will be conducted in two phases. A first selection will be carried out by the ILR Editorial Board and Managing Editor on the basis of submitted abstracts and in line with ILR editorial policy. The submission of abstracts should comply with the following guidelines:
- Abstracts should be in English, French or Spanish.
- They should be no longer than 400 words and contain the following elements: introduction, research question(s), methodology and preliminary findings.
- They should be sent to revue@ilo.org indicating “Special issue: COVID-19” in the subject of the e-mail by 30 June 2020.
- The authors of selected abstracts will be informed by 31 July 2020 and invited to submit their papers by 31 December 2020.
In the second phase, papers will be evaluated through a double-blind peer review process.
