Indian Journal of Law and International Affairs was founded in 2015 with the primary purpose to create a productive space for an interdisciplinary academic discourse vis-à-vis International Affairs, and International Law including International Arbitration, International Refugee Law, International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law and other allied subjects incidental thereto.
Presently, The Indian Journal of Law & International Affairs is a peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, biannual journal dedicated to publishing original research, reports, and reviews from academicians, professionals, experts, research scholars and students exclusively on International Law and its related subjects.
The Journal lauds the support of an Advisory Board that includes policy analysts, senior bureaucrats, distinguished academicians from Yale Law School, Sciences Po, Indian Society of International Law, International University of Sarajevo. The Editorial Collective and the Advisory Board publish the content after multiple rounds of double-blind review.
Furthermore, the Journal has previously organized two International Symposiums on Contemporary International Affairs in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and both these Symposiums were attended from wide range of academicians, experts, research scholars and students of international law.
Themes:
The Indian Journal of Law and International Affairs expects the authors to make their submissions on the themes and sub-themes given below:
International Humanitarian Law, Migration and Internal Displacement:
In light of COVID-19 and Otherwise
1. Detention of migrants and refugees and their protection under international law.
2. Internally displaced people and their protection under international law during COVID-19.
3. Right to universal healthcare and its protection under IHL – in light of global pandemics.
4. Use of Mediation in the resolution of international armed conflicts.
5. Impact of COVID-19 on the global economy and the affordability of armed conflicts, including sanctions, investments, and reparations.
A Brave New World: Changing Dynamics of Self-Defence and Use of Force
1. Article 2(4): Use of Force under the UN Charter in the era of proxy wars.
2. Use of Force and Third World countries.
3. Jus ad Bellum or an attack on sovereignty? Recent shifts in justification for use of force in light of the ongoing US-Iran altercation.
Recent Shifts in India’s Foreign Policy
1. India’s foreign policy and the recent shifts in India’s interests in the middle-east.
2. National Foreign Policy – National Interest or Government Interest? A holistic view of changing foreign policies with changes in regimes.
3. India’s trade relations with South-East Asian Countries.
4. India’s interests in the UN-Iran dispute vis-à-vis the petrodollar and the Chabahar Port.
5. The Galwan Valley crisis in light of 1993 and 1996 LAC bilateral treaties, and India’s evolving foreign policy qua increasing border disputes.
6. Pangong and Arunachal Pradesh: A potential Galwan Deja Vu? The validity and enforceability of the 1993 and 1996 bilateral treaties under International Law.
7. Nepal-India crisis: 1950 Indo-Nepal Friendship Treaty and the implication of its potential violation.
The above-mentioned list of sub-themes is merely suggestive and not exhaustive. The authors are at liberty to make submissions on issues which come within the ambit of core-themes mentioned above.
Submission Categories:
1. Articles: (5000-10000 words, inclusive of footnotes): The papers in this category must comprehensively and critically analyse the theme that the author seeks to contribute. They may be either doctrinal or theoretical (or both) specifically dealing with contemporary and academic issues in international law and related disciplines.
2. Essays: (3000-5000, inclusive of footnotes): The paper should be concisely in terms of scope and conceptualisation of the theme intended to highlight by the author. The essay seeks to solve existing paradigms and contemporary issues in international law and related disciplines.
3. Case Comment: (1000-3000, inclusive of footnotes): The paper related to the case comments should comprehensively deal with the study of contemporary or landmark judicial pronouncement by International Court of Justice, International Criminal Law, Regional Human Rights Court, International Tribunal for Law of Sea etc.
4. Book Review: (1500-3000, inclusive of footnotes): A critical review may be undertaken concerning the book published in the field of international law and related disciplines.
Guidelines for Submission:
The theme of the submission should be within the ambit of the core-themes mentioned above.
1. The submission should be unpublished, original and should not be under consideration elsewhere.
Submission should be made in the electronic form to editorialboard.ijlia@outlook.com under the subject heading “IJLIA Vol.4 Issue 2” submission ‘Paper Title’.
2. All the submission must be in MS Word format (.doc) or (.docx) with the Times New Roman Font (Main text: size 12 and 1.5 spaced, footnotes: size 10 and single-spaced).
3. Page borders should not be used.
4. An abstract of not more than 300 words should be accompanied in the paper.
5. Co-authorship (up to 3 authors) is permitted.
6. All the manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter with the name(s) of the author(s), institution/organization, the title of the manuscript and contact information (email id & phone number)
7. No personal information or references, including name(s) of the author(s), institution/organization and contact information be mentioned in the text of the manuscript and file name.
8. Manuscripts with plagiarism above 25% shall be summarily rejected.
9. All the manuscript must comply with the Harvard Blue Book citation (20th Edition) for footnotes. The non-compliance to the citation of footnotes shall be subjected to rejection.
10. Every submission of the manuscript shall be acknowledged within 48 hours and subject to the preliminary review process by the peer review group.
11. In case of acceptance or rejection, the authors of submitted manuscripts shall be informed about the status of peer-review of the manuscript not later than 30th August 2020.
12. In case the submission is accepted, the editorial board shall inform the author of editors’ feedback/comments and authors shall be afforded a reasonable time to submit the revised draft keeping in mind the editor’s comments.
