Accused has Right to be Represented by a Lawyer in the Court: Supreme Court

Allahabad High Court dismissed an appeal filed by a man in a 1987 murder case, noting that his counsel had not appeared during the hearing of his case. While HC dismissed the man’s appeal, the Apex Court, while resorting it, asked the High Court to consider taking it for hearing at an early date and also said that it was open for the High Court to appoint an amicus curiae to assist it when the petitioner was not represented before it through the lawyer in the matter.

Gujarat Writes Down Its Own Rules For “Anti- Love Jihad” Laws

As Uttar Pradesh and Madya Pradesh move forward and impose the controversial laws to thwart love jihad, the Gujarat government has also started to plan on introducing a legal provision with respect to acting against persons who force an individual into religious conversion in the name of love marriage.

Petition for Independent, Regulatory Media Tribunal filed in Supreme Court

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by film producer Nilesh Navlakha through Advocate Rajesh Inamdar, Advocate Shashwat Anand, and Advocate Amit Paihas. The petition submitted was in regards to the importance of a tribunal which is necessary to maintain a balance between the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression of the media and the adjoining Right to Information of the citizens and Right to Dignity under Article-21 of Constitution of India.
