Calcutta High Court Passes Judgment to Assert Safety of Children Near COVID Centre

Contents of this Page

A shelter home for children, Subhayan Home, is located near the new COVID center. This  decision of the authority of locating its new COVID center near children, has put the children of the Home at risk. The Calcutta High Court questioned the safety of children in the Home. The Advocate General assured that the safety and security of children are not compromised, saying that this is a temporary arrangement.

To ensure that there is no compromise in safety, evaluations were conducted. The reports of the safety evaluations were satisfactory. The authorities have given a list of safety directions. One of them includes separate pathways for the COVID centre and the Children home. This ensures that there is limited interaction of the children with the patients.

The report also focused on the implementation of the POCSO Act through the state. The conclusion of the report is satisfactory. Further, there is a special investigation team set up to keep an eye on the POCSO cases.

Major steps taken include video conferencing facilities in the Juvenile Justice Board. This ensures that there is no delay in hearing the cases. The High Court directs the District Judges to provide records under section 164 of the CrPC to police officers.

The evaluation of these reports is due in three weeks from this order.
