Overview of job:
GroupM is the world’s largest media investment company and are a part of WPP. In fact, we are responsible for one in every three ads you see globally. We are currently looking for a Group Head – Legal to join us. In this role, you will be a part of In-House legal team, a shared resource, working across all agencies, divisions, group companies and catering to almost 20 brands of GroupM. You will be encouraged and expected to handle designated work independently. In short, you will get a lot of freedom to handle work while you’ll get support from seniors in navigating tricky situations and sticky wickets. We’re looking for a talented and highly motivated lawyer to support our rapidly growing and evolving businesses. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities, but with strong command over legal subject like contract law, media and entertainment law, company law, data privacy law, commercial law and intellectual property laws pertaining the media and entertainment industry. You should have strong drafting, negotiation and legal analytical skills. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with the ability to interact with clients, senior business personnel and stakeholders in the systems. Self-directed and highly motivated attitude coupled with an ability to lead and work collaboratively in a high performing team.

In this role, your goals will be:
In three months:
- Get clarity on core business and be familiar with templates, policies of the organizations
In six months:
- Handle contract review, drafting and negotiations independently
In 12 months:
- Handle designated verticals independently (if any assigned to you) or the work /functional areas assigned to you. Team management wherever necessary. Overall understanding of the Legal department functions. You will need to work as per the requirement of the team and needs to be flexible/open to take projects independently as and when assigned to you.
What your day job looks like at GroupM:
- End to end closure of contract independently, negotiation of client, vendor and partner contracts, advising and counselling the business & commercial operations of the organization, by giving pro-active, professional, competent solution and creative legal support to minimise the risk exposure of the organization.
- You will collaborate with local business leaders, commercial leaders as well as with supporting areas (Finance, Admin, Accounting & HR) advising on legal risks, business strategies and other issues related to the Company’s businesses.
- You will be required to work as part of the teams and take on projects, assignments in addition to the daily day job.

Minimum qualifications:
- Law graduate from a recognized university/college
- 8 + years’ relevant experience post completion of law graduation in professional practice and/or in in-house experience in contract management, company law, contract law, commercial law, media and entertainment law.
- Prior knowledge of media industry can be an added advantage
