Facebook is seeking a talented and dynamic privacy attorney to join the APAC Privacy legal team. The role is broad and, among other things, involves advising clients on various legal risks and obligations under APAC privacy laws and driving cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of complex legal and/or regulatory issues. This requires the ability to both work independently and with large multi-stakeholder teams.
This role will be focused on engaging with new or amended privacy laws and regulations in the APAC region and providing advice on compliance strategies. We are looking for someone who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and has demonstrated excellent legal judgment and strategic thinking. This is a full-time position based in Singapore/India/Sydney/Hong Kong reporting to the Associate General Counsel, APAC Privacy.
Lead Privacy Counsel, APAC Responsibilities:
- Be a strong foundation of the APAC privacy team and advise the legal, business, and policy teams on complex privacy and data protection legal matters
- Review proposals for new or amended privacy laws and regulations in the APAC region and assist the policy team to present the Facebook perspective
- Develop and implement strategies for compliance with new or amended privacy laws and regulations in the APAC region
- Analyze products, policies and initiatives to provide practical legal assessments of risk across multiple jurisdictions
- Advise on and help manage compliance and notification requirements across APAC
- Assist with the development of both our global and APAC-specific internal privacy compliance programs and processes, ensuring on-going consistent and efficient operation
- Work in close collaboration with a diverse range of internal stakeholders including Product Counsel, Privacy Counsel, Country Counsel, Policy, Communications and other subject matter experts to identify, anticipate and mitigate privacy related risks
- Coordinate expert outside counsel from across APAC in order to solve complex privacy legal issues within tight deadlines and with an eye to broader strategic objectives
- Contribute to and provide data protection training and awareness programs, including building knowledge management frameworks
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five or more years of relevant legal experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience with internet or technology companies (applicable commercial, privacy or product counseling experience will be considered)
- Law degree and good standing in a professional association
- Keen understanding of the privacy frameworks across APAC and experience working on regulatory change and implementing compliance programs is a plus
- Deep curiosity about technology, social media and the APAC region
- Excellent communication, analytical, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage complex projects, ability to work well with, and advance projects among, cross-functional teams

- Open to travel as and when required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies
- Relevant experience might include product, regulatory or compliance program advice and management
- CIPP certification and/or exposure to GDPR is a plus
