A law student of Mumbai University, Ashish Rai has asked the Supreme Court to take Suo Moto Cognizance of the insult to the national flag done by the farmer protests at the Red Fort. In the course of the farmer’s tractor rally on Tuesday, some of the protesters unfurled their own flags by entering the premises of the Red Fort.
Rai believed there was an anti-social element involved in the protests which turned the protests violent thus, damaging public property. He held that the honour and dignity of the country have been hurt by these violent protests and the Supreme Court should constitute a Special Investigating Committee to conduct a probe against the anti-social elements involved in the protests.
Violence during the Farmers Tractor Rally on Tuesday
The Delhi police had permitted the farmers to carry out their tractor protests only on three routes that are the Singhu border, Tikri Border, and Ghazipur border covering 62Km, 60Km, and 46Km respectively. To ensure peaceful protests Rajinder Singh, Darshan Pal, Balbir Singh, Joginder Singh, and Buta Singh were asked to coordinate with the police during the rally. The Police also mandated that the rally can only be carried out from 12 Noon to 5 PM by a maximum of 5000 persons with 5000 tractors.
Though it was ensured that the Rally would be peacefully carried out, violence broke out when the farmers broke police barricades and entered the National Capital before the allocated time. It was alleged that some farmers vandalized a DTC bus and deliberately tried to run on police. It was a clear violation of all the rules laid down by the police.
Thereafter, anti-farm laws protestors entered the Red Fort and unfurled their own flag. Internet services have been currently suspended due to the current situation.
Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava revealed while speaking to the media, said that many police have been injured due to the kind of violence farmers are creating thus he requested the anti-farm law protestors to return back to their assigned routes.
However, in response to the violent protests, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, the umbrella body of the 40 farmers unions dissociated with the farmer’s protests that took a violent turn and called the tractor rally. The group said that the protests at the Delhi borders will continue peacefully.
