Telangana High Court: Jail those attacking Medical Staffs

The Chief Justice of Telangana High court has ordered and directed the government making it very explicit regarding the security of the doctors and medical staff, that any person who attacks doctor or medical staff shall be at the first hand directed to land them in jail. The court has directed the police to take stringent action on such assaulters who assault medical staff at this critical juncture. Additionally, the court has also directed the state government to make its wide and public the harsh punishments to deter the mischievous elements who are under the impression that they will get away after attacking the doctors and medical staff.

The direction came after the second attack against a doctor who was duty Osmania General Hospital. The doctor was assaulted by a patient’s relative alleging that the hospital staff did not follow the protocol of isolating COVID-19 patients. Therefore, the Chief Justice stated that “When the state government and its machinery are involved in tackling an emergency, those creating law and order problems need not be tolerated at all”.  High Court opinioned that the attacks will demoralise the doctors which will create ripples across the state.

Additionally, the bench was not pleased when the police stated that they have registered an FIR against the assaulter. The bench stated that arrest should have been made by now. Further, it is high time the message should be sent out loud and clear that no one can interfere in the fight against COVID-19”.
