A Notice has been issued by the Telangana High Court to the state and Central Government, its Pollution Control Boards, and collectors, concerned for filing a counter-affidavit against a Public Interest Litigation which complained about the lack of performance of duties by the authorities who failed to prevent the establishment and failure of unauthorized and illegal stone crushing units in the districts of Rangareddy and Sangareddy.

The Public Interest Litigation was filed by one T Sharath Kumar Reddy, resident of Rangareddy district. He sought that immediate steps should be taken to prevent the operation of the illegal and unauthorized stone crushing plants in the districts mentioned above.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy who were hearing the case were informed by the petitioner’s counsel, P Soma Sekhara Naidu that pollution is being caused by these stone crushing units and many people residing thereby were suffering from various health problems.

As per the petitioner’s counsel, the persons who were behind these stone crushing units had been changing their names from time to time. He also alleged that even though these incidents had been reported to suitable authorities, but unfortunately, no actions have been taken by them. He then urged the court to take necessary steps and passed certain orders in order to prevent the illegal operation of the stone crushing.

The bench after hearing the matter spoke about the need for necessary measures to be taken and ordered the authorities to file a counter-affidavit which should contain the steps taken by them in order to deal with the issue.

The court after issuing the notices to the respondents and other authorities to respond to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL), posted the matter to be further heard on January 4, 2020.
