The rapid increase of COVID-19 cases has led to the suspension of activities. The Court issued a notification on 18 July 2020. The notification is about the suspension of activities from the 20 July 2020 to 22 July 2020. In addition, they will remain suspended on 24 July 2020. Moreover, only on 23 July 2020, the Court ought to be in session.
The Court stated that if there are urgent matters, the Court will hear them. For this, the petitioners need to write to the Registrar General. The written communication must convey the urgency of matters. If satisfied, the Chief Justice would commission the bench to hear the case.
The rationale behind the suspension: There are new contaminated zones declared in the area around the High Court. This suspension is for sanitation of the three Buildings of the Calcutta High Court.
