Andhra Pradesh High Court appreciated the State Government for its kind-hearted response to the Vizag case. The Court praised the government for providing financial aid to the families who lost their loved ones in Vizag gas leak tragedy. It suggested that the government extend help to lawyers as well.

Petitioner’s Argument

A division bench of Justice Rakesh Kumar and Justice Butta Devanand heard a petition. Advocate M Giribabu filed the petition. The petitioner appealed the Court to order directions to the government to provide interest-free loans from the State Bank of India to lawyers.

Respondent’s Argument

Advocate Chinthala Suman argued on behalf of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He informed the Court that the government had distributed Rs 100 crore for the same.

The government had decided to use the allocated amount through the Bar Council. Yet no government order came on the same. He stated that a government order would come and he would present its details before the bench.

Court’s Observation

The Court praised the government for providing monetary relief to Vizag gas leak tragedy victims. The government distributed Rs. 1 crore to each family who lost its loved ones in the mishap.

The Court observed that lawyers are in dire need of financial help. It advised the government to extend help to lawyers in the same way it helped those affected by Vizag gas tragedy. The bench suggested that a part of the financial aid announced by the Central government for the States could help lawyers in this time of distress.

The government told the bench that the State Government has allocated Rs 100 crore. That will help to provide financial help to lawyers in need.

The Court asked the government to present details of the amount allocated for lawyer’s welfare. It deferred hearing to June 29.
