Actor Sonu Sood has now approached the court challenging the notice issued to him by BMC. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a notice to Actor Sonu Sood accusing him of allegedly carrying out structural changes in the Juhu building without permission.

A single bench comprising Prithviraj Chauhan is going to hear the case today.

What was the petition?

Last week, Sonu Sood in his petition through his advocate D.P Singh argued that he did not resort to any “illegal” or “unauthorized” construction in the six-story Shanti Sagar building.

D.P Singh observed that there were no illegal changes made by the petitioner (Sonu Sood) that required permission from the BMC, only changes that were authorized by the Maharashtra regional and town planning act (MRTP) act were made.

In his petition, Sonu Sood sought to quash the notice that has been sent to him by the BMC. He also appealed for interim relief of no coercive action to be taken against him.

Last year the petitioner had approached the civil court after receiving a notice from BMC, but seeking no relief he appealed to the High Court this time.

BMC notice to Sonu Sood

After inspection, BMC found that Sonu Sood had allegedly not complied with the pre requisitions and had continued with the unauthorized construction even after notice had been issued last year on October 27th, 2020.

As per the complaint was served last year to Sood on 27th October 2020 and the deadline to respond to that was November 26th, 2020.

As a result of this, the BMC filed a complaint in the Juhu Police station, under the MRTP act on January 4th, seeking an FIR to be lodged against actor Sonu Sood accusing him of converting a residential building into a hotel without any prior permission from the BMC.

Mandar Wakankat who is a junior engineer at the Building and Factory department of BMC at the K West Ward has signed the said complaint. The police are yet to file an FIR on this matter.

Sonu Sood is widely known for his roles in films like Jodha Akbar, Dabangg, and Simba. But he came into the spotlight as a corona warrior last year for his relief work for migrants across the country. He specially arranged transportation for all the migrants to reach their homes safely.
