Amazon Retail, subsidiary of a US based MNC, in the ecommerce business, has an exciting opening for a smart in house Corporate Counsel with eight to ten years of post qualification experience to provide end to end legal support to the Amazon businesses in India. The position is based in Bangalore.

The Corporate Counsel will report to the, Senior Corporate Counsel.

The Corporate Counsel shall be responsible for structuring, drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of matters for the Food Retail Business in India, the counsel shall further be responsible to advise on high-dollar value transactions and cutting-edge business initiatives; provide day-to-day corporate and business law counseling; provides legal review of structured programs, legal review of procedural and government / internal compliance issues. The corporate counsel will support the tax related issues arising in the day to day operations and those related to structuring of business.

Throughout all the above tasks the Corporate Counsel will closely coordinate with the global legal teams and outside counsel.

8 – 10 years or more of in-house legal experience with a multi-national company or a leading law firm environment is highly preferred. Experience working in a consumer-products, manufacturing, FMCG, e-commerce or retail business and knowledge and experience of tax laws and secretarial function is also preferred.

Competence in a broad range of corporate and business laws, foreign direct compliances in retail, product compliances, Legal Metrology and Food Law is required; especially in the areas of commercial transactions and intellectual property (esp. copyright and trademark) and statutory compliances.

Estimated Percentage of Time Involved in Essential Functions:

1. 50%
Structure, drafts and evaluate new engagement models for different business. Continuously work with business teams to review existing models with intent to simplify them on ongoing basis.

2. 25%
Provides day-to-day legal advice on food retail business.

3. 15%
Work with Senior Legal Counsel to develop practice standards and department processes, effectively communicate legal and policy issues in a timely and proactive manner;

4. 10%
Work with multiple stakeholders to review Amazon policies, impart legal training to his/her clients.

Education:

Required Degree

LL.B. (undergraduate law degree) from a recognized university in India. Additional CS qualification is desirable.
