The Financial Products Division (FPD) is the financial arm of Caterpillar Inc, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with offices and subsidiaries located throughout North and South America, Asia, Australia and Europe. In India, FPD is based out of Bangalore.

Job Summary

The Law, Security and Public Policy (LSPP) organization of Caterpillar offers legal, secretarial and regulatory advisory services to all of Caterpillar’s businesses in India, housed in five (5) separate legal entities incorporated in India.
The position shall be a part of LSPP in India and based out of Bangalore. The position reports to Assistant General Counsel, India and will work closely with the LSPP team, based in India and globally, in handling and management of all legal and corporate secretarial functions for the Financial Products Division (FPD) of Caterpillar in India. The incumbent serves as a liaison between the LSPP and FPD by providing daily counselling requiring accurate interpretation of the law and corporate secretarial compliance requirements as it applies to the FPD India business.
The position will have familiarity with new or changing laws and regulations that impact FPD and inform FPD management of the effects of these laws on particular functions; will keep updated on new developments by continuous review of a variety of legal literature; and will lead the legal support for several strategic initiatives of FPD in India.
The incumbent engages with FPD personnel in various departments in assigned areas of responsibility and applies statutes, legal precedents, administrative regulations, corporate policies and procedures and internal operating procedures. The incumbent impacts key quality goals including customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, timeliness, accuracy, efficiency, cost savings, process quality, etc. The position changes the way work is performed to meet quality goals for the measures stated.
The incumbent will be involved extensively in the portfolio management of the FPD India business and in this regard will be involved in litigation proceedings to the extent of selecting and engaging the services of outside counsel, representing the company by providing factual information to outside counsel and serving as liaison between other company personnel involved and outside counsel.  Monitors quality of services provided by outside counsel and assures timely disposition of legal action.

The incumbent is a senior generalist who is assigned the more complex problems and operates with a minimum of supervision.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualification:
Minimum requirements of the position include all of the following:
  1. a degree in law from a reputed Indian University;
  2. should possess relevant Company Secretary qualifications and experience;
  3. 10 or more years of progressively responsible job-related experience is required. Relevant experience in a Non-Banking Financial Company would be an added advantage;
  4. the applicant should possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  5. should be a team player with a keen intent to learn.
