About the Webinar

National Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights: Dynamics of Copyright Laws and Emerging Challenges.

Intellectual property rights (IPR) are the rights given to persons over the creations of their mind for a certain period of time. The issue of IPR is pertinent these days as it remains as a vital item in the agenda of the policymakers and much-debated topic in the academic discourse.

The real success of the intellectual property as a commercial asset can be made through commercialization and not merely by creation and development. In the Indian context, we can find well-established statutes related to IPR which aims at securing protection to the intellectual property; still, the condition and circumstances of gaining protection and commercializing the intellectual property act as a shortfall in the overall process. Lack of awareness and stringent process of getting protection to these rights comes across the way in the successful implementation of the IPR laws.

There is a dire need for the protection of human ideas once they have been materialised as a result of human intellectual effort. Intellectual property rights pervade over the areas of patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, geographical indications, protection of layout design of integrated circuits and protection of undisclosed information and protection of new plant variety. IPR refers to monopoly protection for creative works such as writing (copyrights), inventions (patents), processes (trade secrets) and identifiers (trademarks).

Laws and rules related to IPR’s are very difficult to understand for common people and those engaged in various types of business, industries and research.

It is the need of the hour to place the topic for an academic discourse with an aim to create awareness among the academicians, research scholars, students and practitioners about the issues related to IPR. This webinar is intended to cover various components of IPR like Patents, Trademarks, Copyright, etc.
